Job Profile

Healthcare support workers, work together in a team to provide quality care for individuals. Within 12-18 months you will have the capabilities to provide compassion and healthcare for individuals who cannot care for themselves. You will be fully qualified to carry out clinical duties, monitor conditions of those who are unwell, check progress and comfort of our patients to provide valuable health and social care.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role

The role will enable you to take on a lot of responsibility and work closely with other care workers and patients. In order to progress, you will learn relevant standards and policies for this workplace, including the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. Throughout this apprenticeship you will have constant support in order to achieve the highest success. We will also ensure you gain your Care Certificate which will form the fundamental skills you need to provide the best care.

You must treat every patient with the most compassion and dignity, respecting every individual’s belief, culture, and values. This job will require you to show empathy to the patient’s situation, to their families and show respect to everyone around you.   • Communication – communicating with individuals, their families, your colleagues and healthcare professionals. This will become so important to your role as you can make yourself and others understood, you may resolve conflicts with smooth communication, and you will be able to handle sensitive information which may be confidential.
  • Health Intervention – supporting individuals thought-out their conditions, being able to identify signs of pain and discomfort and able to promote physical wellbeing for others. You will learn how to do routine clinical tasks, such as blood pressure checks, taking temperatures etc. This is very valuable in acknowledging signs of wellbeing at its best and when it is deteriorating and promoting positivity in one’s wellbeing and physical health.
  • Person centered care – Promoting mental wellbeing and recognising when an individual has limits. Being able to notice those who are struggling with their mental health or general cognitive wellbeing, becoming forgetful or feeling anxious. These skills are important to remain positive in your role for the wellbeing of others and being able to report low mental health.
  • Personal development – Taking responsibility for others and for yourself in order to reflect on each individuals’ actions including your own. Being able to work in a team and develop skills within the team and individually to continue learning and upskilling. The role does have a lot of responsibility and you must follow the rules in place to manage your relationships and help others to the best of your ability.
  • Equality and Diversity – following the principles of equality and diversity and inclusion to ensure every individual always gets the same level of care and compassion. This will not only help those in care, but also help others recognise every individual matters.

Assessment

Throughout the apprenticeship, while you are taking on new responsibility and learning new skills, you will be assessed throughout. You will have ongoing consultation with your superiors and training providers. This assessment aims to test the skills and knowledge you have learnt during your time on the apprenticeship and to test your skills as a health care worker. You will have the opportunity to showcase skills and methods of care that you have learnt as well as compiling a portfolio of your great work to evidence each part of your role to prove your understanding of the content and practical skills you have learnt. Finally, you will take part in an interview and get graded on each step of the apprenticeship course.
