What does being a Senior Journalist consist of?
Becoming a Senior Journalist is one of the highest accolades in the Journalism Industry. It will entail a range of different Roles and Responsibilities and other tasks that you need to adhere to on a daily basis in order to succeed.
Some of the key Roles and Responsibilities for this include:
- Interacting regularly with employees from the same organisation, representatives of other businesses/organisations and members of the general public.
- Working across different locations in unsociable hours at times.
- Researching, Reporting, creating and commissioning content.
- This can involve filming, recording and editing audio and video in a deadline-driven matter.
- This can be both to inform and/or entertain on Television, Radio, Online or in Print e.g. Newspaper articles.
- An employee could also commission work, source material for copy use, speak to contacts about subjects, head assignments and sometimes even lead projects where content assets need to be managed and junior staff need developing/assisting.
- Talking directly and engaging with certain audiences and will be called upon to make strategic decisions, in uncertain and unpredictable circumstances.
- Understanding the need for audience engagement and analysis of audience analytics.

What Qualifications do I receive from this Apprenticeship?
This Apprenticeship is a Non-Degree Qualification, so there is no official University Degree Certificate acquired unless outsourced. The official Certificate awarded for this Apprenticeship will be a Level 7 certificate in Senior Journalism.
