The Level 2 Leisure team member apprenticeship allows you to work along side your colleagues to perform a range of operational duties such as, assisting with the opening and closing of the facility, undertaking routine maintenance of equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment. Additionally ensuring programmed activities and services are available for customers. They will be acting as a Lifeguard, Swimming Teacher, Gym Instructor and Group Activity Leader. The level 2 leisure team member apprenticeship creates an excellent opportunity to head into a new career path. Once the Leisure Team Member has completed the apprenticeship, they will be eligible to become a Recreation Assistant Practitioner Member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
Level 2 Leisure Team Member Competencies
As a part of your role, you will be carrying out duties that will show a number of competencies. Some of these examples are:
- Communication (written & verbal) e.g., Information on products, and accident reporting procedures.
- Customer Service e.g., training customers on equipment and answering any enquiries about products.

The Qualifications
So, you are probably thinking, but what would I get out of this apprenticeship? Here are number of qualifications you will gain after the apprenticeship has been completed.
- A IQL Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding.
- One of the following: A Swim England Level 2 in Teaching Swimming or A STA level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming.
- A Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction awarded by; Focus Awards, Active IQ, Innovate Awarding, NCFE, VCTC or YMCA Awards
- A Level 3 Certificate in First Aid (to be taken either as a stand-alone qualification or as a separate part of the IQL Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding).
